"CATCH VD": really CW? really?

As many series come back from hiatus on the CW this weekend, the network revealed it's new billboards in cities like Los Angeles and New York.

It seems they have decided on a new approach to bringing old and new viewers alike with the words "CATCH VD" beside the series stars Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley.

It's an understatement to say that the fandom is in an uproar. While some can care less about the less than respectable idea, most are horrified. Myself included. Honestly, I can't even imagine what came over the network to approve marketing like this. With an audience that is mostly of the teenage variety, how can they think an advertisement that says "CATCH VD" like it's a disease can possibly be good for ratings?

Not that fandom can't spread like wildfire, but that's not the point. They are aiming at capturing the idea of fandom, and ended up WAY too far off the map. Not only does that slogan disrespect the series fans, but I can't imagine the number it will do to the public image of the series stars.

I'm just at a total loss at what the network was thinking with this line of promotion.
