Henry Cavill is Superman

Over the weekend Zack Snyder announced that British actor Henry Cavill has been cast as Clark Kent/Superman is the latest reboot of the man of steel's story.

Cavill is best known for playing Charles Brandon in Showtime's "The Tudors." It was down to him and Brandon Routh for "Superman Returns" and he also auditioned for Batman for Christopher Nolan.

I think he's a great choice, he's a talented actor who has a sexy, mysterious yet earnest quality that will work well for Superman. It also doesn't hurt that he's gorgeous.

It's no secret that I'm no fan of Snyder, but this casting gives me a tiny bit of hope that he won't completely ruin the franchise.

With that news behind us, it's time to think about Lois Lane. Kate Bosworth was terrible in "Superman Returns" so it's really important that they get it right this time.

Though it might break the comic book time-space continuum, Erica Durance from "Smallville" is a fantastic Lois Lane. I would also suggest Anne Hathaway, but since she's going to be Selina Kyle that leaves her out of the running.

My feeling is that Lois will be a much harder part to cast than Superman.

As for all those people complaining about a British actor playing Superman, get over yourselves. Last I checked Superman was from Krypton, making him an alien from another planet who consistently saves the world, so the U.S. doesn't have exclusive rights to the hero.

Had to post this...

Okay, so I would normally never post something like this, but I couldn't resist.

There have been plenty of fan reaction videos to the CW bumping "Supernatural" and "Smallville" back to Feb 4th, but this one is by the far the best one I have seen yet, and had to share it!

'Supernatural': Western episode teasers

Thanks to Jensen blabbing at San Francisco Con a few weeks ago, it was revealed to the fandom that episode 17 of this season will be a western episode. Through a few interviews here and there since, we know that Sam and Dean will be transported back into the 1860's because they need to have a conversation with Samuel Colt.

And for those of you that are either rusty, a little slow, or just joining us, Samuel Colt is the maker of "The Colt", that gun that can kill anything. (Well, anything but Lucifer and about five other people/things.)

We haven't been told why the Winchesters need to make the trip back, but I'm sure we won't find out until the episode before. However, we were given a very exciting teaser that spread across the internet yesterday, despite the obvious awkward void of knowing there would be no new episode, in form of the lovely picture from set that you see above. Thanks to the fansite @WinchesterBros on Twitter for posting it on their Facebook, it is a photo from set and they are currently filming episode 17. In the monitors you can clearly see Sam and Dean, wearing cowboy hats (excuse me while I fangirl for a minute), and over on the right top portion you can see what seems to be some kind of maybe bell tower or church steeple.

Although the series does shoot in and around Vancouver, there are rumors floating around that they could be filming this episode in Wyoming. I have no idea if it's true, however, Clif Kosterman (@bodyguard4JandJ) tweeted a few days ago about the weather in Wyoming. But, it could have been a joke.

Before I leave you fellow Sam Girls (...and Dean Girls if I must) to fangirl over that photo like I have been doing the past 24 hours, let me share with you one more thing.

I have been rewatching Season 2 the last few weeks, and came upon the season finale a couple days ago. It's been quite a long time since I have watched "All Hell Breaks Loose" and I'm sure we can all understand why. However, there is one scene in Part 2 that sparked my interest like it never has before. When they are discussing Samuel Colt and the churches and railroads that he built to construct that huge devil's trap to protect the doors to hell, I realized something. Bobby says that all of those were built in the mid 1800's.

Bobby mentioning this made the wheels in my brain start turning. Maybe the construction of this huge devil's trap will have something to do with Sam and Dean's trip back, maybe it won't. At first, I was thinking that it could have something to do with the making of the Colt, but then I remembered, John tells the boys that the legends say the gun was built in 1835. But, there is still a possibility that it could have something to do with the creation of the Colt.

Knowing the kind of stories that Sera Gamble, Ben Edlund and Robert Singer come up with, it wouldn't surprise me if this is tied in somehow. But then again, it wouldn't surprise me if they shock us with something completely different either.

Anyhow, I just wanted to share my theory with ya'll.

Sorry, I couldn't resist...

The Challenger tragedy remembered

Like many of my generation the space shuttle Challenger disaster was the first "where were you" moment of my life. I was also one of the many children who watched live that day. Since today is the 25th anniversary of the Challenger launch I thought I'd share my story.

I was in fourth grade when they showed the Challenger space shuttle launch on live TV and it was a big deal for schoolchildren because Christa McAuliffe, a teacher, was among the crew. My elementary school wasn't in a fantastic neighborhood, so when they put some of the older kids together in one room and hooked up a 13 in. television for us to watch, we knew it was a big deal.

At the time I think we were more excited about the idea of having the morning off from classwork than watching the shuttle launch. Then the unthinkable happened and shortly after take off the shuttle exploded.

Most of the students didn't understand what had happened until the reporters were explaining it. There were three teachers in the room, the two younger teachers started crying which caused some of the kids to start crying.

Also in the room, the scariest teacher in school, she taught fifth grade and gave out homework everyday. She dismissed the two crying teachers, turned off the TV and calmed down 50 kids all by herself. She became a little less scary that day (until the next year, when I ended up in her class.)

As word spread the day became increasingly sad and by the time I got home I started to understand the magnitude of what happened. When I got home my dad was watching the news and they showed the disaster over and over, my mom wanted to find something else for my brother and I to watch, but there was nothing else.

This was in the days before 24 hour news networks, there were the big three and CNN. Up unitl that point I hadn't seen all day news coverage before. As a TV obsessed child, it really resonated to me how big this was when they didn't go back to showing regular TV.

It was the first time I gained a little perspective beyond my eight year old world and to this day I can't watch shuttle launches on TV.

"Supernatural" and "Smallville" premieres postponed

Early this afternoon, the CW Network sent emails to popular fan sites and popular bloggers and journalists so the fandoms of popular cult series "Supernatural" and "Smallville" that their winter premieres would be postponed until next friday, February 4th.

I can't even describe the outrage that burst wide open on Twitter and Tumblr only moments after these people were notified. Myself and many others thought it was a rumor. A cruel joke, after reading multiple teasing interviews and recaps of "Supernatural's" new and extremely anticipated episode of "Like a Virgin".

Yet, as the news and the truth sunk in, we all exploded, demanding a reason, of which we were given a number of lies.

Still, at this moment, it is impossible for me to convey my anger and betrayal towards the CW Network for this decision. And all of it was for "The Vampire Diaries".

Not that I do not love that show, because as most of you know, it is one of my favorite series right now. However, when a series like "Supernatural", which is of much better quality than "The Vampire Diaries" could ever be, is bumped simply because the network is worried about ratings against "American Idol", how else are the fans supposed to feel other than betrayed?

This is yet another bad decision made by the CW Network pertaining to one of this few cult television series in the last few years. Sometimes I feel like the leaders of this network are honestly trying to reach out towards the fandom community, yet, end up so far off that it is actually degrading.

I honestly do not understand how playing "The Vampire Diaries" and "Nikita" tomorrow night again, are going to help their ratings against "Idol". If the network is that worried about it, then move the series to another night. In fact, here is a perfect solution:

"Smallville" is in it's final season. Ratings are not an issue. Which it with "The Vampire Diaries", so like last year, it plays with "Supernatural". This way, instead of pitting the fans against each other as the network has done today, they are actually boosting each other's ratings. Who knows, maybe "The Vampire Diaries" ratings will rise, like "Supernatural's" ratings have since making the move to friday nights.

It seems like a poor excuse to play favoritism to a series that had the highest ratings on the network last year, but has been disappointing many fans this season, myself included. Also, series like this have a set audience. Moving it to friday just one time is not going to bring a new audience, especially not in the middle of the story as it is at the present moment. So not only will this decision not make a difference to "The Vampire Diaries" ratings, it may in fact hurt "Supernatural's" ratings.

How is this a good decision?

Honestly, the network is lucky that two of my favorite shows are on their channel. Yet, as soon as both of these series are over, I am officially done being a fan of this network. I am tired and done with the bad decisions that this network continuously makes when it comes to their cult series.

At this point, when they make decisions involving series with cult status, they need to take into account the fans, because they are the only reason the shows remain on television. They are the audience. And apparently, the CW has yet to learn that when you piss of the audience, you are doomed.

Didn't they see what happened to "Heroes" on NBC?

Apparently not.

I just pray that this horrible move does not hurt the ratings of "Supernatural", when the decision is still up in the air about renewing it for a seventh season.

File this under... scary

The big news to come out of today?

Will Smith's daughter Willow is going to be starring in a remake of "Annie."

Yes, this "Annie."

And rapper Jay-Z will produce.

Methinks this is just one big excuse to finally have Jay-Z's version of "Hard Knock Life" in an "Annie" movie.

You know, Smith has another kid that can ruin star in another classic film from my childhood.

Maybe, I don't know... say, "The Monster Squad?"

Oh, wait...

Crap.

Oscar nominations: They forgot who?

So let me get this straight, "Inception" is one of the best pictures of the year with one of the best original screenplays, visual effects, original score, art direction, cinematography, sound editing and sound mixing, but not one of the best directors.

What does Christopher Nolan have to do to get a best director nomination. First he's ignored for "The Dark Knight" and now "Inception," which by the way was the only decent movie in theaters for a big chunk of 2010.

I guess we'll have to keep hope alive for "The Dark Knight Rises."

The other huge miss by the Academy was in the visual effects category where "Tron: Legacy" wasn't nominated.

How is it possible that a movie that takes place inside a computer doesn't have the best visual effects of the year. It's true that "Iron Man 2," "Inception," "Harry Potter," and "Alice In Wonderland" all had spectacular effects, but seriously "Hereafter."

Now I haven't seen "Hereafter" but, I find it hard to believe that it had better effects than "Tron: Legacy." It should win based on the light cycle scene alone. I understand that the Academy looks down its nose at sci-fi, but come on, it's their jobs to recognize the best movies of the year regardless of genre.

These continuous slaps in the face makes them lose credibility.

"CATCH VD": really CW? really?

As many series come back from hiatus on the CW this weekend, the network revealed it's new billboards in cities like Los Angeles and New York.

It seems they have decided on a new approach to bringing old and new viewers alike with the words "CATCH VD" beside the series stars Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley.

It's an understatement to say that the fandom is in an uproar. While some can care less about the less than respectable idea, most are horrified. Myself included. Honestly, I can't even imagine what came over the network to approve marketing like this. With an audience that is mostly of the teenage variety, how can they think an advertisement that says "CATCH VD" like it's a disease can possibly be good for ratings?

Not that fandom can't spread like wildfire, but that's not the point. They are aiming at capturing the idea of fandom, and ended up WAY too far off the map. Not only does that slogan disrespect the series fans, but I can't imagine the number it will do to the public image of the series stars.

I'm just at a total loss at what the network was thinking with this line of promotion.

For picture of the billboards and more on the story, head over to EW.com HERE.

Oscar nominations: first impressions

Now that I've recovered from waking up at 5:30 in the morning, let's discuss the Oscar nominations. Tim and I will have a more in-depth discussion on this week's show, so these are just my first impressions.

"The King's Speech" led the way with 12 nominations including Best Picture, Actor, Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor. Colin Firth has become the favorite for Best Actor, though he has stiff competition from James Franco in "127 Hours."

I'm hoping that these nominations along with the 14 Bafta's and the Producer's Guild win is pushing "The King's Speech" ahead of "The Social Network" which received eight nominations including Best Picture, Actor, Adapted Screenplay and Director.

"True Grit" followed with 10 and "The Fighter" received seven. Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Amy Adams were all nominated in the Supporting categories. It's no secret that I've been in love with Bale since "Newsies" and "Swing Kids" so I'm very excited to see him finally recognized for his talent.

Also getting well deserved recognition is "Toy Story 3," only the third animated film to be nominated for Best Picture. A lot of people criticized Pixar for campaigning for the top prize instead of Best Animated Feature, but obviously they knew better.

I think it helps that these characters are so familiar that you have to be a robot not to get emotional about their final chapter.

A few nominations that got our nerd levels jumping were "Iron Man 2," "Inception" and "Harry Potter" for Best Visual Effects, while "Tron: Legacy" was nominated in the sound editing category. Among "Inception's" eight nominations were also Best Picture and Original Screenplay, though Christopher Nolan was snubbed for director.

There weren't any big surprises this morning, though there was a few notable snubs which we'll cover in a separate column.

Be sure to stay with us for complete Oscar coverage on "Inscaped," as well as our usual hilarious live blog during the show.

A Fangirl's Top 5 Heath Ledger films

Yes, I will admit. That I cried this day three years ago, and so far, it is the only time I have done so after hearing the news of a celebrity's death. And there's a reason for that.

Heath is the same age as my brother. So it was very easy to see him as such. He is like my Zac Efron of this generation. An actor close to the same age as me that I admire dearly. I have seen every last one of his films, and projects. And when I was at work that morning, I read the text from a friend while on my break and immediately started crying.

It was such a weird morning, because before the bookstore opened, a group of us were talking about the new issue of EMPIRE magazine, which released the first photo of Heath as the Joker on the cover. All of us were talking about "The Dark Knight" excitedly. And then, we found out he had died during the night.

Still to this day, Heath will always be one of my favorite actors, and artists, because in a way, he was always more than just an actor. It is such a rare occasion to see an actor pull off such perfection with a deep and complex character such as the Joker. And because of him, and the masterpiece that the film has become, it will always be one of the greatest films of my lifetime, and a hard one to beat.

So, in honor of the anniversary of his death, here is a list of my top five all time favorite Heath Ledger films. For once, this list was an easy one to make.

5. 10 Things I Hate About You

Still one of my all time favorite romantic comedies. You just can't get any better than Shakespeare, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Heath Ledger. Oh, and a GREAT little musical number. What else can you possibly say about this movie to make it sound any better? Just those few little simple facts make it memorable.

5. Casanova

It's not a favorite of most, but I loved it. Heath had just the right kind of unbridled elegance to play the infamous Casanova. Not only that, but a perfect chemistry with Sienna Miller, whom I've always had a soft spot for. I have also always thought this script is highly underestimated as a perfect mix of history, drama and comedy. Honestly, it was far more amusing than I ever thought it would be. And although Heath is far more known for his dramatic roles, he does have great comedic timing.

4. Brokeback Mountain

What can I possibly say about this movie that those of you who have seen it don't already know? His performance was perfect. It's as simple as that. And there is no reason he should not have won the oscar that year. No reason. Though this movie was avoided by most, I always knew I would see it. It's Heath Ledger. That is reason enough to see it for me. I don't care what it's about. Drama is so diverse in it's variety today in storytelling, that this story needed to be told. Persecuted even today for his decision to play this role, I admire him for it. Although his career was short, the courage he showed in the roles he accepted is apparent.

3. Candy

The one Heath Ledger film that most people have never heard of, and the one I recommend most to see. A story of two heroine addicts trying to get over their vices while falling dangerously in love with one another. Performing opposite Abbie Cornish and Geoffrey Rush, these three tell an authentic and rustic tale of the struggles of a relationship with something as strong as an addiction is between you. I love this movie because of how real it is. No unrealistic or out there plots to win someone's heart back. This is how so many true stories end. And with these three fabulous performances, you can never go wrong with "Candy".

2. A Knight's Tale

One of Heath's most memorable films because it's the one that took him to the big time. There is just nothing wrong with this movie. It's fun, it's musical. There's great action. A perfect love story. And it's an ultimate underdog story, and everyone loves rooting for the underdog. Oh, and it's based on Chaucer's "A Knight's Tale" from Canterbury Tales. Plus, who can forget Paul Bettany's PERFECT portrayal of the infamous Chaucer himself? The unexpected mix makes it a perfect teenage hit, that I will always love.

1. The Dark Knight

Perfection. In every way possible. What else is there to say? Not only is Heath's performance the stuff of legend, every other aspect of this film creates a masterpiece. I still believe with every fibre of my being that this film should have won more Oscars. It wasn't even nominated for Best Picture, and it should have been. I was so afraid when I was standing in line for the most insane midnight showing I still have yet to attend, that I was going to be so caught up in missing Heath, that I wouldn't be able to enjoy the movie. How wrong I was. Heath's performance was so riveting and consuming from his very first scene, that I didn't have time to mourn him. I have been a fan of the Joker since I was a kid, and he never been portrayed in the way I always imagined him until Heath came along. Scary in appearance, and even more terrifying in his twisted and crazy logic. A man so and utterly psychotic, yet filled with an unbridled genius, its inspiring to behold. What a legacy to leave the world with. One of the best performances and best films ever made.

Marvel's next project: Black Panther

A Black Panther movie has been bouncing around Hollywood for a while, but Marvel's recent resurgence and upcoming releases "Thor," "Captain America" and "The Avengers" makes it the perfect time to get this project going.

For the uninformed the Black Panther is a ruler of the fictional African nation of Wakanda. He is a great fighter, possessing serious martial arts skills, is an extremely effective hunter and detective and is a genius scientist.

As a teenager he fell in love with Ororo Munroe, known to the rest of the world as Storm. They have had an on again, off again relationship which culminated in their marriage right before the Superhero Civil War.

So I guess it's time to cast the role. These are my choices in order of perfection for the part.
  1. Chiwetel Ejiofor-I know he's not known for his action abilities, but he was awesome in "Serenity" and has the right amount of gravitas to pull off the Panther's alter ego T'Challa.
  2. Coby Bell-His work on "Burn Notice" proves he can do action and drama. It's just a question if Marvel would take a chance on a TV actor that isn't as well known outside the black community.
  3. Idris Elba-He handled the action in "The Losers" just fine and is obviously a talented actor, but his age is a disadvantage, as is his upcoming role in "Thor" as one of the gods since Marvel may not want there to be any confusion.
  4. Michael Jai White-He played Spawn so obviously he has no problem with action, and is an accomplished martial artist who would bring a lot to the character. There is a question about his serious acting chops and whether Marvel would take a chance on casting him.
  5. Common-The onetime Green Lantern would make a great Black Panther and surprise a lot of people with his screen presence.
Of course the studio could go in completely different direction and come up with a name none of us has considered. However, whatever they decide theyshould start talking to 20th Century Fox about a Halle Berry cameo.

Candace's 'Being Human' rebuttal

Along with Stephanie, I also tuned into SyFy's series premiere of "Being Human". However, I did not have the same thoughts on it as she did.

First of all, know that I have not seen one episode of the UK series before. I do not have BBC America and own none of the DVDs. I watched this pilot without knowing anything about the original series other than that it is very popular over there, and gaining popularity over in the US.

However, I can say that I have been looking forward to this premiere for months, mainly because it is the return of Sam Witwer to the SyFy Channel, as he is one of the many previous stars from "Battlestar Galactica". Though he was not a main character, I always loved him as Crashdown, and am very excited for this opportunity he has to be a main role.

My opinion on the Pilot is quite the opposite of Stephanie's. I went into this episode truly hoping it would be good, and I wasn't disappointed. Most of all my closest friends know what one of the first things that gets me hooked into a series or a movie is: the dialogue. I think the opening montage is very well done, and the one line that immediately interested and impressed me is that of: "You wake up from your nightmares...we don't."

It's made perfectly clear, that neither Aidan, a vampire, or Josh, a werewolf, are handling their undead curse very well. And instead of struggling alone, they decide to move in together, and that might be a little easier. A chance for them move on from a struggling past and a future of pretending to be human as much as possible. But, it's really never that easy.

Especially when you find out that you will be living with a ghost. This scene, was the real hook for me. After Aidan and Josh find that their house is also being inhabited by Sally, one of its previous owners, I was done for. I'm already invested.

Sally: How can you see me?
Aidan: Well, think of us as different countries on the same continent.
Josh: Oh my god, that's beautiful. Really. We're Africa.

The dialogue is witty and definitely centered to the younger, smarter fantasy audience. In other words, this is not another 'The Vampire Diaries' or 'True Blood'. Not that there is anything wrong with those series. This series however is meant for a different more specific audience. Not for the hormonal teenager, or the classic science fiction fan. It's for a fan like me. One that loves vampires and werewolves, but is tired of seeing them only written for teenage girls and lonely older women. For the fan that misses the perfect miss of comedy and drama that "Stargate SG-1" and "Stargate: Atlantis" was so perfect at.

In fact, the very first thing I thought after the episode was over is, "Supernatural fans are going to love this series." It's smart, witty, dark, sarcastic, and full of the same kind of mythology. That is the kind of fan this series is meant to be watched by. The kind of series that the SyFy Channel has been missing since the end of "Stargate: Atlantis".

Along with plenty of sarcasm and wit being thrown around, I thought there was also just enough heart to make me want to keep watching. The two scenes that were real stand outs both involved Aidan and his dilemma. One night, when Aidan gets home, Sally is crying on the couch. When Aidan reaches his hand out to comfort her, they both realize that they yearn for the one thing that neither of them can have: human touch. It is a sweet, heartfelt scene. The other is of Aidan calling the phone number on the missing person's poster of the girl he killed in the beginning of the episode and letting her family know she is dead. Both of those scenes officially have me invested in Aidan's story and struggle to be human.

And I have nothing but good things to say about Mark Pellagrino's role as Bishop, Aidan's former mentor. As always he is fantastic, and is another great reason to watch this series.

The last comment I would like to make is that I see a possible bright future for the chemistry and bromance between actors Sam Witwer and Sam Huntington, and their characters Aidan and Josh. Give me and few more episodes, and they might even make it onto my Favorite TV Bromances that I am trying to put together.

So, unlike Stephanie, I will definitely be tuning in next week, and may just have another reason to talk about another fantastic vampire series every week. I might have to start doing Vampire Round Ups every week...

Supernatural San Francisco Con Report

Me and Jared Padalecki

Me and Genevieve Cortese

Me and Jensen Ackles

Me and J2

A few stories, and a few spoilers for you.

So, this being my very first 'Supernatural' convention, I was a little fan girl all weekend. However, considering all the mental preparation I did, I was able to get through it. Minus the fact that Jared tried to make me trip on the stairs, and ALMOST succeeded, and I am positive that he did it completely on purpose...

Anyway, a few spoilers that were given here and there throughout the weekend.

1. We will apparently be seeing young Mary Winchester again. Does Castiel transport Dean and Sam back to the 70's again??

2. YES, Misha Collins will be in the fourth wall episode, scheduled to air last next month. Jensen confirmed this by his little comment of "filming a scene a few days ago of Misha playing Misha." What else could that POSSIBLY mean?

(For those of you that do not know about the fourth wall episode: Dean and Sam get transported into an alternate reality where they are actors Jared and Jensen, stars of the hit tv series 'Supernatural')

In one of the pictures that I posted above, you can see Jared holding two props from that set. They are the alternate universe's actors J. Ackles and J. Padalecki trailer signs, which the real Jared and Jensen auctioned off to the crowd for charity.

3. A pleasant surprise for all of us, Jensen spoiled that there will be a WESTERN episode this season. Dean and Sam are getting transported back into the 1860's. I think we are all assuming that it will definitely have something to do with the Colt, which we haven't seen since it failed to kill Lucifer in Season 5 episode "Abandon All Hope".

Now that picture of Jensen in a cowboy hat looking like he was on the back of a horse makes much for sense.

4. Cliff all but said, YES, there are plans and a continuing storyline for a Season 7. They are just waiting for the official word from the CW.

5. And although Samantha Ferris (Ellen) was not at the convention, she did however post a picture of her and Misha Collins on her Twitter account. Does this mean another possible Heaven episode in the future? And maybe also a return of Alona Tal (Jo) as well?

6. Also, Jensen also hinted that Dean will be hunting the hunters that killed him and Sam at the beginning of the Season 5 episode "Dark Side of the Moon". This could be an interesting story.

...Jensen sure loves spilling doesn't he?

A few funny stories for you:

1. Apparently thanks to their wives, Jensen is now addicted to 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' and Jared to 'Jersey Shore'. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has lost just a tad bit of respect for them. Also, neither of them can make it through 'Extreme Makeover: Home Edition' without crying.

CLICK HERE for a video of that story.

2. There seems to be a fair amount of dancing going on around set.

3. The term "PUDDING!" is now the general term used by cast and crew when something unexplainable happens around shooting.

4. The boys LOVE stealing stuff from the set, especially borrowing clothes from Dean and Sam Winchester.

Since they wouldn't let me video all the panels, that is all I remember. I do however, have tons of pictures from the panel other than the few that I posted above. You can see those on my Flickr HERE.

I also have a number of HILARIOUS stories behind the pictures that I took with Jensen and Jared, especially the Jared photo. I did do a long post of Tumblr of the interaction between him me and my stool, along with the bag of candy that he snatched from my hand.

To read those stories click HERE and HERE.

I have also posted, and am continuing to post a number of my own videos, most of them from the concert on saturday night that Jared Padalecki and Genevieve hosted and attended. You can find those on my YouTube Channel HERE.

Alright, that's about it.

Stay tuned for plenty more from me and my further adventures at the 'Supernatural' Convention when I attend the LA Con next month!

US 'Being Human' is no UK 'Being Human'

Britain's "Being Human" is a cult sci-fi hit about vampire Mitchell, werewolf George and ghost Annie who share a flat and try to lead normal lives. It can be at times dark, scary, funny and touching.

Somehow with all the supernatural elements that fold into the stories, the show manages to feel heartbreakingly real. This is due to the chemistry of the show's stars. Aidan Turner plays Mitchell as a struggling addict who desperately aches for something he lost long ago. Russell Tovey's George constantly carries the pain of his curse around, going so far as to treat the wolf as a separate entity. Lenora Crichlow as Annie is the soul of the trio, she's the one that holds them together.

It is these characters and the chemistry between the three leads that keeps the show intensely fascinating and instantly watchable.

The American version has the same premise with a few changes, but it lacks the heart of the original. Unfortunately, that's the one element that it needs the most.

In Syfy's new "Being Human" Sam Witwer plays vampire Aidan as a smug hipster who tolerates Sam Huntington's uncool werewolf Josh. Whereas Mitchell appreciates George's nerdiness as one of those sought after human qualities. While the comparison is slightly unfair, they asked for it by doing a remake.

Possibly the most offensive part of the new show is the way Sally the ghost is portrayed. She seems more like a petulant child than a caring friend. And where Annie cares for Mitchell and George as her friends and contact to the outside world, Sally felt selfish and unlikeable.

The show's one saving grace was casting Mark Pellegrino as the sinister vampire Bishop. Every scene he was in instantly became better and gave me slight hope. Unfortunately, he would leave and then I was still stuck with impersonators.

And that's exactly what it felt like to me, impersonators pretending to be Mitchell, George and Annie.

Maybe I'm too close to the original to be objective, because other fans liked it, but for me it just didn't work.

The UK "Being Human" is slated to begin its third season in England Jan. 23, then will premiere on BBC America later in the spring. Interested fans should check out the original and not bother with a poor substitute.

How will I make it through the morning without Regis?

We all knew it was coming eventually, but the world still isn't ready for morning TV without the immortal Regis Philbin.

This morning on "Live With Regis and Kelly," Regis announced that he was leaving the show later this year after 28 years of morning chats, trivia questions and interviews.

Now, this is no surprise, Regis is almost 80, but it still feels wrong. Breakfast just isn't the same without Regis to talk you through it. Also, how will I know what restaurants to visit without hearing about Regis and Joy's night on the town.

Of course talk has immediately turned to who will replace Regis. Lets get one thing straight, Regis is irreplaceable. There will never be anyone else like him.

However, if we're discussing successors the list must automatically include frequent guest hosts Anderson Cooper, Neil Patrick Harris, Mark Consuelos and Cameron Mathison.

But, let's not think about any of that just yet. Right now let's spend the rest of the year celebrating the talk show legacy of Regis Philbin.

Supernatural Con teaser...

So, I went to the Brian Buckley Band concert and Jared Padalecki and his wife Genevieve Cortese were hosting.

Fantastic concert! Everyone needs to buy this bands CD, because they are amazing. Brian, the lead singer, has such a talented voice. Just wow.

Anyway, you guys will get the whole story tomorrow night, but I am bouncing up and down the walls right now that I got to meet Genevieve because I love her way too much. So I just had to post this picture.

And don't worry. I am videoing and taking pictures like crazy. There will be plenty more where this came from...

Iowa might just have it

Going into Academy Award nominations come Jan. 25 there are a few toss up categories.

I think Best Supporting Actress is a collection of amazing actresses and one of the toughest categories in years.

Right now Jacki Weaver from "Animal Kingdom," Hailee Steinfeld from "True Grit," Helena Bonham Carter from "The King's Speech" and Melissa Leo from "The Fighter" are all beyond deserving.

That fifth slot can go anywhere. Some think Mila Kunis from "Black Swan" might get it. I hope people don't discount Barbara Hershey from "Black Swan."

The Iowa Film Critics released its Best of the Year list and it looks good. Very good.

Best Film
“The Social Network”

Best Director
David Fincher, “The Social Network”

Best Actor
Colin Firth, “The King’s Speech”

Best Actress
Natalie Portman, “Black Swan”

Best Supporting Actor
Christian Bale, “The Fighter”

Best Supporting Actress
Melissa Leo, “The Fighter”

Best Animated Film
“Toy Story 3″

This, to me, looks like the Oscar winners list.

Sure, I want "Inception" to win, but I am a realist to know that it won't.

I would be happy with these acting results though.

Stay tuned for our complete Oscar coverage for more details.

Now that's a super kick!

I don't normally watch wrestling anymore, but man did this part really make me laugh.

Tyler Perry and 'The Game' big winners

Last night BET relaunched the canceled CW show "The Game" to an amazing 7.7 million viewers. Those are ridiculous numbers for a show that hasn't produced a new episode in two years. It's true that BET runs "The Game" repeats the way TNT runs "Law & Order" but, still 7.7 million is pretty strong.

To put that in perspective new episodes of "No Ordinary Family" and "V" were around the five and a half million viewers range. In its own timeslot "The Game" beat out both "Parenthood" and "Detroit 1-8-7" by a large margin.

BET promoted the crap out of last night's premiere with non-stop commercials and a weekend long catch up marathon, so it'll be interesting to see how next week's episode fares.

As for the show itself, it's not my cup of tea but I found it interesting that the format was tweaked making the show a full hour and having it become a dramedy that switched easily between comedy and drama. This is a style that Tyler Perry uses to great success in his many movies and TV shows.

Speaking of Perry, the multi-hyphenate entertainment mogul received 19 NAACP Image Awards nominations. Now he can't possibly win them all because in a few categories he's nominated against himself. His TV shows "House of Payne" and "Meet the Browns are nominated for best comedy series and several of the show's stars are nominated in acting categories.

Perry was also nominated for writing and directing "For Colored Girls," while many of the actresses received acting nominations.

The Image Awards can sometimes feature an eclectic list of nominees and this year is no different, Where else would you see Jaden Smith nominated for best actor against Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman (wow it hurt just typing that).

Other nominees included Inscaped favorite Dule Hill for best actor in a comedy, the awesome Salli Richardson-Whitfield of "Eureka" for best actress in a comedy, the last good thing on "The Office" Craig Robinson and "Glee's" spectacular Amber Riley in the supporting categories.

Of course none of them will win because Tyler Perry's shows win everything. I'm starting to think that there should be categories for best performances in a Tyler Perry show so everyone else can have a fighting chance.

While the television comedy nominations are ridiculous, the drama categories feature big names like Anthony Anderson, Laurence Fishburne, Jada Pinkett Smith, S. Epatha Merkerson and Alfre Woodard. The work these actors and the rest of the drama nominees do will never be recognized at mainstream award shows so it's nice to see them here.

The last notable nomination to mention is Aaron McGruder in the best television comedy writing category for "The Boondocks" episode "The Fund-Raiser." This is quite simply one of the funniest half hours on TV this year.

If nothing else, The Image Awards are always one of the more entertaining award shows of the season. It airs on FOX March 4 at 8 p.m.

Oh, happy day!

"Castle" was renewed for a fourth season Monday!

Woot.

The best word to come out of the pickup was from "Richard Castle" himself (on his Twitter account):

Woke up feeling good today. Feel like I received a real pick-me-up.

'The Cape' makes a super first impression

Anytime there's a new superhero show or movie, the nerds of the world are prepared for disappointment. When a show is as hyped up as "The Cape" they go into overdrive.

In the lead up to the series premiere last night, the Internet had gone into meltdown mode.

The show revolves around Vince Faraday (David Lyons), a cop who is framed as corrupt and presumed dead. To protect his family and clear his name, he adopts the persona of his son's favorite hero The Cape.

He is trained by carnival performers/bank robbers led by the charismatic Max Malini played by the perfectly cast Keith David.

The first hour of the premiere set up this part of the story and felt a little slow, until The Carnival of Crime showed up. The training sequence with the carnival performers was the most interesting part of Vince's transition and could have taken more time.

The main villain is Chess, who is also known as legitimate security contractor Peter Fleming. The always fantastic James Frain plays up Chess to the hilt, while Fleming seems like a bit of an afterthought. It also seems impossible that Fleming is seen as a real businessman, because he practically screams "look at me, I'm evil."

As a part of his quest Faraday is helped by the mysterious blogger Orwell, portrayed by sci-fi rock star Summer Glau. The only problem with this role is that no one will ever buy Glau as a damsel in distress now that she's kicked so much butt in "Firefly," "Serenity" and "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles."

At one point when she was being attacked by an assassin I kept waiting for her to stand up and fight back, which would have improved her bland character. Glau is too good an actress for such a generic character. Hopefully this will be improved as the show progresses.

Ultimately the show's success rests on Lyons believability as The Cape, because no matter how great Michael Keaton and Christian Bale are as Bruce Wayne, it doesn't work if they can't be Batman. And that's the biggest issue with the first two hours of "The Cape." Lyons has Faraday down, but I'm still not sold on The Cape.

The writers also left his superpowers ambiguous, so they could presumably add to them as needed in specific episodes. However, it needs to be clear what he can do and where Vince Faraday ends and The Cape begins.

Fortunately, these are all things that can be fixed as the show grows. Producers should also consider getting rid of Faraday's wife. Her character's story felt like one story too many when they are also focused on Vince's journey, his work with Orwell, the Carnival, Chess and Tarot. With all that going on she's expendable and her death will add some drama to the show's campiness and free up Faraday for a pairing with Orwell.

Overall "The Cape" got off to a decent enough start to keep me interested for a couple more episodes, but it needs to give me a sign of where it's headed to keep my interest longer.

Review: 'Bob's Burgers'

Fox just aired its new cartoon on Sundays "Bob's Burgers."

It's about a crazy family that runs a burger joint.

The show is done in the same style of "Dr. Katz" and "Home Movies."

As I type this, the show is still going on. I only got through 10 minutes.

In those 10 minutes there were dead body jokes, jokes about crotch itch and even a running gag about child molestation. There was even an entire conversation about which kid wouldn't get molested and why.

It's so bad and unfunny I can't even begin to explain.

It's like "Raising Hope" was broken shards of glass and dipped into season three of "Heroes" and rubbed in my eyes.

Utterly painful.

Directors Guild guesses

The Directors Guild of America will announce its nominees for the Best Director prize today. Last year they had a perfect record matching the Academy Awards.

This year is a toughy.

I think it's safe to assume that the one, for sure, in this is David Fincher for "The Social Network."

That leaves four more choices.

Christopher Nolan for "Inception" is one that will probably come up today.

I'm really thinking that the other three nominees will end up being David O. Russell for "The Fighter," Darren Aronofsky for "Black Swan" and Tom Hooper for "The King's Speech."

For more information, check out The Directors Guild website.

Anyone 'Wanna See It'?

Apparently not.

January is known for being a "slow" month.

But, come on.

The only major release this week was the Nicolas Cage supernatural action film "Season of the Witch." Not to be confused with the third "Halloween" movie.

Basically it's about some warriors that have to transport a witch to a monastery. "Hellboy" himself Ron Perlman also stars.

The film is directed by Dominic Sena, who worked with Cage on "Gone in 60 Seconds." Guess lightning doesn't strike twice.

On Friday the film had a one percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. One percent.

By Sunday that number rose a tad to four percent. That comes out to three "good" reviews and 72 negative. Even those three reviews know the film is bad, but found something to like about it.

That point can and probably will cause an argument about how to critique movies (we will likely have it.)

The film grossed around $10 million with a reported budget of $40 million. As Stephanie likes to say, it will have to make a lot of money overseas.

The most hilarious thing, considering it's the first release of the year, is to see it ranked as the "top movie of the year" here.

On a side note, the "Oscar" films of this season, that are still in theaters, are doing very well.

"Black Swan" $61 million total.
"True Grit" total $110 million total.
"The Fighter" $57 million total.
"The King's Speech" $33 million total.

Inscaped week in TV

We're extending our vacation a bit, so no show this week. So here is my recap of this week's TV.

"Southland" returned for its third season premiere and immediately jumped back into action with the first scene featuring Regina King and her new partner in a car chase that turned into a foot chase.

We also saw Michael Cudlitz's Officer John Cooper continue to battle and hide debilitating back pain, while Ben McKenzie as Officer Ben Sherman stepped up to become more of partner to Cooper and not just his trainee.

This show is so much more than the usual crime drama or procedural. Its realistic portrayal of the LAPD sets a standard that no other police drama on TV can live up to. It has a grittiness to it that makes it feel like it should be on HBO or FX. It's reminiscent of early "NYPD Blue" and "The Shield."

Since it's on cable it won't get huge ratings, but a cable show doesn't need 13 million viewers every week to be considered a hit. In short it's really good, quality TV, which explains why NBC canceled it and TNT wisely picked it up.

"V" also returned to television this week with its second season premiere. This show had an underwhelming first season and was a surprise renewal. Producers and cast have been promising a more revealing and action packed season two.

However, the premiere didn't really live up to the hype. All that was revealed was that the visitors want to use humans for breeding and that Erica (Elizabeth Mitchell) may have been experimented on when she was pregnant.

Maybe the upcoming appearances of original stars Jane Badler and Marc Singer will add some much need excitement.

The original mini-series was ground-breaking and appointment TV, this show is neither and is not long for this world. The first night ratings were a very low six and half million, which were third behind Paula Abdul's ridiculous "Live to Dance" and the repetitive "The Biggest Loser."

I'm wondering if ABC will continue to air the last new episodes or pull it in the next few weeks and burn them off in the summer. My money's on the latter.

'Black Swan' destined to be a huge Oscar winner

I can honestly say without any hesitation whatsoever that "Black Swan" is the most disturbing movie I have ever seen in my entire life. I wouldn't say it's necessarily scary, at least not for me. But, when it comes down to it, this film is about how dangerous it can be to completely surrender yourself over to a creative art.

As a writing student, I am blown away by just how visual this story is. We are seeing this story unfold from the point of view of Natalie Portman's character, prima ballerina Nina. It's obvious that she is perfect for the fragile character of the White Swan in the classic ballet "Swan Lake". However, it's playing the role of the Black Swan that she has trouble connecting with.

Her director wants her to lose control. To let the emotions take over. And that's exactly what happens. Slowly, her mind deteriorates into the personality of the Black Swan. Run purely and solely by a human's most extreme emotions. Jealously. Rage. Love. The visual markers shown to the audience that she is in fact, losing her mind are surprising, scary, and disturbing. At times, seeing an alternate form of herself in a mirror. Or an alternate ego of a fellow ballerina attacking her.

And once her director says, "The only thing in your way is yourself," that's when the Black Swan breaks free.

The most remarkable scene of the film is the Black Swan's solo, where we visually see Nina starting to grow black wings. It's so grotesquely beautiful that you can't turn away, but scary as hell.

The first brilliant aspect of this film is the writing. When it comes to exploring the depths and differences in character, this has got to be one of the most genius scripts ever written. And no one can take away from Natalie Portman and her performance in this film. She is fantastic, and in my opinion, deserves every award that they can give her. This is the performance of her career.

This film received 11 Critic's Choice nominations and I think it deserves that many Oscar nominations. Acting, directing, writing, cinematography. All of the big ones. A film cannot be this great and impacting without being masterful in almost every aspect. This is one of those films that you can break apart in every way and form in the classroom and have discussions on for weeks.

There is no doubt in my mind that "Black Swan" is the movie of the year.

Supernatural 4th wall episode spoilers

Okay, I'm fangirling so hard right now, I'll try and stay calm.

Ever since "Supernatural" won the TV Guide Cover contest, we have known that there was a fourth wall episode in the works.

Now, for those of you that don't know what I mean by fourth wall, prepare to be dazzled.

If you are a fan of "Supernatural" and have watched it before, then you should know this. So this is for the newbies. A fourth wall episode is a story that basically brings the fandom into the story somehow. There have been several fourth wall episodes in the series before, so this is nothing new. But the lengths that this episode will go will far out do "Monster at the End of the Book" and "The Real Ghostbusters", which both deal with author Chuck of the "Supernatural" books that basically chronicle the whole hunting life of Dean and Sam. Down to the letter.

Then of course, who can forget the genius of dragging them to the first "Supernatural" convention where they have to save all their biggest fans from real life pissed off spirits.

This episode however, may just be the greatest of them all.

Dean and Sam will be transported to an alternate universe where they are Jensen and Jared, stars of a popular television show, "Supernatural".

Thanks to AskAusiello, we have been given another little tidbit of spoilers. Which is really no surprise.

Genevieve Cortese will be making her comeback to the series, who previously starred as Ruby 2.0 in season four, as the alternate universe Jared's wife. Who, in case you don't know, is Jared Padalecki's real wife.

Trust me, Tumblr is going crazy over this fantastic news, and is now calling and wishing for Jensen Ackles real life wife, Danneel Harris, a star of "One Tree Hill", to play the alternate universe wife of Jensen.

Oh, how I love this show.

Best moment(s) of 2010

We're gearing up toward our big Best Movies of 2010 show, but I wanted to talk about the best 24 hour period I had in entertainment this last year.

Saturday evening, July 24 at Comic-Con.

Hall H to be exact. Hard to remember the specific time thanks to Stabby McStab Stab.

Stephanie and I were at opposite ends of the room and I was sitting next to this very nice couple. The two of them had no clue what was about to happen and that made it even better.

We had heard rumors of Daniel Craig or Harrison Ford showing up for the "Cowboys and Aliens" panel.

We got both.

Craig came out first and got a good reaction.

Ford came out and the roof blew off Hall H. I can't even really put into words how amazing the reaction was. In some ways there was so much noise though screaming, clapping etc. that it created this strange buzzing noise that seemed to block out everything.

I still remember the look on the man sitting next to me. His mouth was wide open in shock and it was almost pure amazement joy.

Less than an hour later, it got even better with the big "Avengers" announcement. Even though Stephanie and I both knew it was coming, it was beyond everything we could have expected. (I still get goosebumps watching that video.)

In some ways it was almost too good to be true. I've mentioned this on the show before, but all our life nerds dreamed of this day. We just always thought it would never happen.

It's probably extremely dorky to say, but I was sitting there thinking "I'm watching history."

Then of course then next morning, I got to do this:

BEST... DAY... EVER!

Stop trying to make 'Green Hornet' happen

There's an episode of "Entourage" where the guys all know Vince has made a bad movie, but they have a good trailer so they use that to try and sell the movie to the studio.

Everytime I see a trailer for "The Green Hornet" I think of that episode. No matter how many awesome trailers they make, I can spot a bad movie a mile away.

Seth Rogen is no action hero, as matter of fact, he's barely funny, so the idea of casting him in an action movie is ridiculous to begin with.

I've always loved "The Green Hornet" for its fun, campiness and its cool style, but this movie doesn't appear to have any of that. I have yet to make up my mind if I'll bite the bullet and go see this film, but the trailer isn't selling me on anything.
