American Idol: Country Week

Last night on "American Idol" the top 11 performed country songs. As a long time country music fan, I'm always a little concerned when "American Idol" goes country.

For the most part it was average with no one really taking any risks. The stand outs of the night were Danny Gokey doing "Jesus Take the Wheel" and Anoop Desai's beautiful version of "Always on my Mind." I think Anoop sung himself back into the competition.

Worst performance of the night goes to Adam Lambert in a landslide. He took what might be the most perfect country song ever, Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" and butchered it into as Simon called it "self indulgent rubbish." He turned it into a middle eastern influenced ballad that was just awful. Plus once you got past the crappy arrangement, his singing was terrible. He basically screeched and squealed for two minutes, causing my head to hurt and making my ears bleed.

If there's any justice in this world Adam Lambert will be voted off "American Idol" tonight. Then he should be forced to go on an international apology tour, making amends for putting us through his horrendous singing. His first stop should be Johnny and June Cash's graves, followed by a by a visit to Randy Travis, last night's mentor.

He started off as one of the front runners, but now I just want him destroyed.
