Ultimate Spider-Man breaks racial barriers

While comics have come a long way in terms of minority superheroes, the list of A-list, top tier characters of color is still short. That's why the announcement that the new Ultimate Spider-Man would be a half-black/half-Hispanic teenager named Miles Morales is such a major one.

It's true that characters like Storm, Black Panther and Nick Fury have been popular for years, however, having a hero like Spider-Man be a minority is a big deal.

Marvel isn't offering any details about Miles' origin just yet, but his appearance in "Ultimate Fallout #4" is sure to create lots of interests and sales in the upcoming "Ultimate Spider-Man #1," which is out the same month as DC's giant relaunch.
